Protesters run up rent
PA Auckland Thousands of dollars in rent arrears are owed by Bastion Point protesters who have occupied seven Housing Corporation houses near the point for more than a year. The manager of the Housing Corporation in Auckland (Mr B. S. A.
Row) said that some Bastion Point protesters had not paid rent for some time, and that “appropriate measures” were being taken. “They haven’t been paying rent for quite a constable time,” he said. “We have known all along that this was happening.” Mr Row said the amount owing was “substantial,”
running into thousands of dollars. Asked why the corpora* tion had not acted earlier in recovering the rents, Mr Row said it was “tied uv to the political situation” of the whole Bastion Point issue. “We are just trying to take measure in the proper way and as low key as we can,” he said.
