Drive to sell kiwi fruit
PA Tauranga A determined promotion effort in Britain to develop the demand for kiwi fruit there is planned for the next three years. Announcing the campaign, the chairman of the Kiwi Fruit Export Promotion Committee (Mr W. M. Nicol) said the programme followed a survey done in Britain last year. “Britain was the first place to which kiwi fruit was exported 25 years ago, but since then development of the market has been unspectacular," he said. “As a result a London specialist in fresh produce promotion, Mr J. M. Morrish, was employed by the promotion committee last year to find out why this was so and what could be done about it.” Mr Nicol said a comprehensive report had resulted and Mr Morrish had come to New Zealand at his own expense to discuss it at a meeting of the committee at Mount Maunganui. The committee then engaged him for a three-year term at its public relations consultant in the British Isles.
