Tunnel and bridge subsidies
Sir, —In an otherwise well balanced editorial article on July 3, you say that the Auckland Harbour Bridge Authority gets an annual grant of $lO million from the National Roads Board compared with $200,000 for the Lyttelton Road Tunnel Authority. The annual grant for the bridge authority $1 million, not $lO million so that the statement that the bridge is more heavily subsidised by motorists elsewhere than is the tunnel is incorrect in view of the much greater traffic volumes in Auckland.—Yours, etc. P. F. REYNOLDS. District Commissioner of Works.
July 3, 1978. [The error in our article is acknowledged. The figure should have been $1 million. —Editor]
