Holden to lock gates
Melbourne General Motors-Holden will lock its gates around Australia today and screen workers as they arrive. The company is taking the action because of a 24-hour strike today by General Motors-Holden metal tradesmen. The tradesmen make up 20 per cent of the com iPany’s work force. They are i unhappy with a company ! reply to a union log of claims. Production workers, who belong to the Vehicle Buildi ers’ Employees Federation, have been told by their i union to go to work as normal.
I The national secretary of the federation (Mr Len Townsend) said the federation’s 12,000 members at General Motors-Holden would ignore the tradesmen’s strike.
