Orchestra grant
The Canterbury Orchestra; has been told that its grant; from the Queen Elizabeth II) Arts Council for the 1978-79; financial year is $140,000; “for the employment of 11 full-time musicians, and associated administrative costs.” the orchestra has said. During the 1977-78 finant'.al year, the orchestra gave 59 concerts in schools (32 in association with the Southern Ballet Theatre); 34 performance;- for “user” organisations ''Christchurch Operate Society. Christchurch Marmonic Society. Christ- • church Arts Festival, and) Southern Ballet Theatre);! fve subscription concerts;) s.x concerts of the subscrip- ■ tion programme in communiiies in Canterbury; two spe-j ria! concerts in conjunction with South Pacific Tele-i vision; and 49 lunchtime re-; citals to an audience of I about 50,000. Part-time p’ayrs in Christchurch were engajjfd lor 7000 paid hours.
