School conditions
Sir, — My age-group needs attention. I go to a well-off high school and find disgusting conditions. There are misty windows and freezing
rooms. The heaters are usually off in winter to prevent a waste of energy. This is stupidity with a whole class in the room. The atmosphere is murky, the floors are damp and creaky. The tables and chairs are designed to create noise. The walls feature unattractive, dull chipboard or concrete painted dull green to inspire boredom. If most “money earners” swapped their office with a classroom they would be infuriated over conditions and something would be done. This treatment is the sort which leads to gangs of “deviants.” We want attention. — Yours, etc., H. WILLIAMSON. June 22, 1978.
