Complaints upheld

Complaints arising from a TVI “Prime Time” programme were upheld to a substantial degree by the Broadcasting Corporation earlier this month. Three viewers complained

about a programme on March 30, which examined provisions of the Contraception, Sterilisation, and Abortion Act. The programme dealt with a published list of certifying consultants, and their sympathies or membership of the Society for the Protection of the Unborn Child, at some length. The complainants alleged unfair treatment of the role

: of S.P.U.C. or doctors with S.P.U.C. associations. The complaints were not : made by S.P.U.C. as reported in a Press Association item from Wellington in | “The Press” of June 15. ! In a statement read out . during a later edition of “Prime Time,” the corporation said that it upheld “in substantial degree”- three complaints, but it found that any bias shown in the programme was not deliberate. "The corporation’s decision came after an investigation by the head of programme standards and consideration by the Standing Committee of TVI.”
