Cricket test at Napier
The second cricket test between Pakistai and New Zealand early next year will be played at Napier. The venue was announced at the New Zealand Cricket Council’s meeting in Christchurch over the week-end. At the time of the series, the Basin Reserve will be under re-construction and Pakistan will meet Wellington at Lower Hutt. The test will be played on February 16, 17, 18, 20 and 21. The council’s Board of Control has stated its position in regard to World Series Cricket matches being staged in New Zealand. A statement released at the meeting indicates the Council’s opposition to any proposal to introduce such matches. It stated.— “The suggested organisation of cricket matches in the North Island by a private promoter has been considered and the New Zealand Cricket Council’s Board of Control reaffirms its policy of opposition to the conduct of cricket in New Zealand by any private promoters and will not condone participation in any such cricket by associations or players.”
