Ration plan
The United States Energy Secretary (Mr James Schlesinger) has proposed a new stand-by petrol rationing plan — for use in times of crisis — calling it fairer and less complex than one issued by the Ford Administration but later withdrawn by President Jimmy Carter. Mr Schlesinger stressed that rationing under the plan could occur only in time of crisis, such as another oil embargo or a Middle East war that cut off tanker shipments from the Persian Gulf. —Washington.
