The American Civil I Liberties Union has filed a J suit asking the Superior | Court in Los Angeles to ; force Rotary Internation-J to allow women members I in the world-wide service organisation. It also asks for the reinstatement of he Rotary chapter in Durate, Cali- ■ fornia, which was expelled
s for permitting three women to become mem- 1 bers. The chapter was ordered j last December by Rotary International to expel ■ women memb.rs because ! the club’s charter per- I mitted only “an adult I male person of good I character and good business or professional i reputation” to join. When the chapter re- ! fused, it had its charter I withdrawn. An appeal ’ was rejected at the Rotary I International convention in j Tokyo last month.
