Container contained surprise

Until it was opened, noone could work out why a loaded container had fallen from a truck in Waltham Road yesterday morning. It was found that the container had been stacked with heavy coils of wire on one side — and toilet requisites on the other. “No wonder it overbalanced,” said a Ministry of Transport spokesman. Traffic was disrupted for some time by the accident, which occurred about 11a.m. near the junction of Waltham Road and Shakespeare Road. The damaged container was lifted back on to the truck by a crane. But it had to be placed at an angle across the deck to prevent it from falling off again, and the truck needed a Ministry of Transport escort to its destination.
