NZPA-Reuter Le Mans A SSM gamble paid off yesterday when France’s Renault car manufacturers pulled eft their first victory in the Le Mans 24-hour endurance race, to join the distinguished company of names like Jaguar, Ferrari and Porsche. The Frenchmen Didier Pironi and Jean-Pierre Jaussaud drove faultlessly, without any mechanical problems to give the stateowned French firm an important return on the vast sum it spent preparing for the race. The Renault win meant disapI pointment for Belgium's Jackv ickx, hoping to win al Le Maus for a record fifth time to give Porsche its third successive title But Ickx and his co-drivers. Robert Wollek (France) and Jurgen Barth (West Germany., had to settle for second place, with another Porsche, driven by Americans Hurley Haywood and Peter Gregg, third.
