TV advertising
Sir, — Mrs A. Butler (June 10) is obviously a perceptive woman. Why indeed is it only the female of the species in the world of TV advertising who is afflicted by bad breath, body odour, etc? Could it be that the script-writers are male? As for asking for equality, does she wish an equal number of advertisements to feature men being given the cold shoulder because of their culpable ignorance of the sponsor’s products? Would it not be more sensible if all of u- — whatever gender — queried more closely which products answer genuine needs or which products “create needs” by spurious advertising? — Yours, etc., (Mrs) JILL WILCOX. June 10, 1978.
