Schoolboy rugby
Although Christchurch Boys’ High School beat Shirley Boys’ High School in their annual rugby encounter on Saturday, their win was not convincing and the game was not one for the spectator. Boys’ High dominated the line-outs, thanks mainly to the efforts of Anthony Dalziel, who outclassed his opponents with some fine two handed takes. Christchurch was also dominant in the loose, where Robert Mackie, Alister Davis, and Mark Reece seized every opportunity to upset and harrass their opposition. Over-all the game was a scrappy affair, with a lack of cohesion between the half-back and first five-eighths of both sides preventing any flow of play. Boys’ High deserved to win because of the greater mobility and aggression of its tighter pack, although Shirley’s second five-eighths. Craig Green, made the most of his limited opportunities. Results: — C.B.H.S. 8 (N. Skjellerup and R. Ritchie tries). S.B.H.S. 0. St Bede’s 18 (A. Gill (2), G. McDonald, and G. Meates tries; C. Power a conversion), St Thomas’s 3 (C. O’Malley a penalty).
