Top domino toppier

NZPA-UPI New York Bob Speca has broken the world record for toppling a continuous chain of dominoes but failed to reach his goal of 100,000 down because a bumbling television cameraman touched off a disastrous chain reaction. The “world domino wizard” spent 95 hours in nine days arranging the 100,000 dominoes in a pattern of names, figure eights, hoops, and whirls on the 646 sq. m. floor area of the ballroom at the Manhattan Centre. The first domino was gently knocked over at 12.30 p.m. and the little black rectangles toppled along at a speed of 4.8 km/h or 30 a second. Ten seconds before the old

record of 50,000 dominoes was broken, at 12.50 p.m., the television cameraman, leaning over for a better shot, dropped his press card from his pocket. It fell onto a line of do= ! minoes, starting off a second chain reaction. Mr Speca pulled three do- ; minoes out of the line, (avoiding a situation where (two dominoes travelling in (different directions would (fall against each other and (stop. Representatives of the (“Guiness Book of Records” gave Mr Speca credit for a (total of 97,500 dominoes 'down.
