Socred-O’Brien alliance denied
PA Wellington. The member of Parliament for Island Bay, Mr J. G. O'Brien, does not have the support of the Social Credit League in Island Bay and he has not been invited to ally himself with the party, the Social Credit Leader (Mr B. C. Beetham) has said. Mr Beetham said Social Credit was putting forward a candidate who had the unqualified support of himself and of the league. “The political future of Mr O’Brien is his own af-
fair,” Mr Beetham said. “Before Social Credit would be interested in any relationship with him, Mr O’Brien would have to move away from his Socialist philosophy. “Having said that, however, there are advantages in the three solo members of Parliament assisting one another in procedural matters,” Mr Beetham said. “This is the extent and the limit of any political co-operation between the two Independent members and myself.”
