Strong ’lifting team
PA Auckland An exceptionally strong New Zealand weight-lifting team, which includes all the Commonwealth Games selections, has been nominated to meet Australia at Panmure, Auckland, on July 8. Designed as a final and extremely valuable warm-up contest for the Games it will benefit both countries. Australia is at present the strongest, weightlifting nation in the Commonwealth but attaches such importance to the strength of New Zealand "lifting that it specifically asked for the test match at this time.
The contest will also be of importance to the 1974 Commonwealth middle-weight champion, Tony Ebert, who could lift him self Into the New Zealand team with a victory in the match. The team is.—s2kg: P. Wedge (Northland). 56kg: Precious McKenzie (Auckland). 60kg: George Newton (Canterbury). 67.5 kg: Phillip Sue (Auckland). 75kg: Tony Ebert (Auckland). 82.5 kg: Donald Huch (Auckland). 90kg: Brian Marsden (Taranakii. 110 kg: John Barrett (Auckland). Manager: Mr Bruce Cameron (Auckland). Assistant manager: John Bolton.
