Vilas gets through
NZPA-Reuter Parisi Guillermo Vilas, of Argen- 1 itina, beat Hans Gildemeister, of Chile, 6-4, 2-6, 6-1, 3-6, 16-3 yesterday to reach the semi-finals of the French I open tennis championships. ' Vilas’s next opponent is I Dick Stockton, of the United I States, another clay-court expert, who took advantage lof the slow, red courts in Paris to drive out the artful I Manuel Orantes, of Spain, the fifth seed, 5-7, 6-3. 6-3, 6-4. Brian Fairlie, of New Zea- ; land, has been eliminated from the Kent tennis championships in Beckenham by Britain’s John Feaver. Feaver won their second-round match, 6-4, 9-7. In the third round of the I men’s singles Jimmy ConI nors, of the United States, [beat Ishmael el Shafei, of Egypt, 6-2, 6-2.
