Standards on toys?
PA Wellington Parliament has been asked to consider introducing legislation to set safety standards on toys made in New Zealand. The requests are contained in the petition of Heather Tanguay and 9825 others which was presented to Parliament by the Government member for Hastings, Mr W. R. Fenton.
The petitioners asserted that there were many recorded accidents to babies and children from dangerous toys and that other toys sold in New Zealand were not subject to any safety check. Manufacturers, importers, wholesalers, and retailers also had no safety standard to guide them in selecting merchandise.
