PA Wellington Radio equipment has been stolen from the cockpit of a helicopter owneby New Zealand’s only licensed air ambulance service, a machine used extensively in search and rescue and emergency work in the Wellington a. a.

The pilot of the Jetranger craft, owned by Capital Helicopters, (Mr P. B ton), yesterday described the theft as “a pretty sick sort of thing to do.” The theft had occured on Thursday night while the heliconter was parked in the Ministry of Transport hangar at Wellington Airport, he said. He dis-

covered the loss on Saturday afternoon. Two headsets from f..e machine as well as two citizen band radio sets end an F.M. marine band ground-to-air radio, worth a total of $2OOO, were stolen. Some of the gear was taken from the service’s office. Mr Button said that the thieves obviously knew what they wanted and had not damaged the helicopter. He had a spare headset compatible with the machine, he said, but the two stolen sets, worth about $5OO each, were not in common use in New Zealand, and would have to be pa ! for by the company.
