Film blasphemy

Sir, — May I congratulate Graeme Carle and Marcus Ardem on their double protest — walking out of the theatre and writing to “The Press” (May 15), over the language used in the film, “The Goodbye Girl.” It is sad that in this so-called Christian country, the name of the Lord can be publicly blasphemed while people laugh. I have heard other complaints about GA and GY films. What must some of the R films be? A solid section of the public is concerned over the very low standard of films generally, and also over the increasing boldness of pornography in literature. When liberty turns to licence it is time for censorship to be reviewed in the interests of the public as a whole and the young generation in particular. In my view the present weak criteria- governing censorship of . literature and films should be changed by law to something firmer. — Yours, etc., H. G. ORAM. May 18, 1978.
