Option on council buildings
Although the Christchurch City Council has granted an option on its three central properties in Manchester Street and Worcester Street, it will still be open to offers. A "substantial national organisation” asked for the three-week option to give it time to prepare a purchase offer on the council offices, the Civic. Theatre, and the Regional Planning Authority offices.
These buildings will not be needed by the council when it moves into Miller’s building in mid-1980.
Their sale in the meantime would mean that the council would have to raise a smaller loan to pay for the Miller’s purchase and renovation.
The estimated market value Of the three buildings is $847,500.
The present option means that the council will not -sell the buildings to anyone else! within three weeks. Although the council wants to sell the properties, along with one in Gloucester Street, it hopes that a new owner will let it remain a tenant until Miller’s building is ready to occupy.
