The New Zealander, Bob Charles, returned a 75 in the third round of the Italian open at Pevero, yesterday bringing his aggregate score to 225, 11 strokes behind the leader, Dale Hayes, of South Africa.
Charles, who now lies eighth in the tournament, also carded a three-over-par 75 in each of the first two rounds. Fellow countryman Simon Owen finished one stroke behind Charles yesterday but a high 79 in the first round has left him trailing the field with an aggregate of 231. Hayes now has a fivestroke lead over his nearest rivals, Tommy Horton (Britain) on 219 and Eddie Polland (Britain) and Vinny Baker (South Africa)* sharing 220.
