N.Z. band, Maoris big attractions
The National Band of New Zealand and the Aotearoa Maori Group will be the top attractions at some of the world’s leading international festivals and exhibitions during their 14-week round-the-world tour beginning early in July. The band will give more than 80 concerts and marching displays in the Netherlands, Britain, Canada, and the United States.
The band’s secretary-or-ganiser (Mr A. G. Lewis) said that highlights would include the world music festival at Kerkrade, the Netherlands; a grand concert at the Central Hall, Westminister, Britain; and threeweek engagements at both the Canadian national exhibition at Toronto and the Los Angeles County fair in California.
At Kerkrade, the band will attempt to regain the world brass band championship, which it won in 1962 and 1970.
The band and the Maori group will assemble at Burnham military camp on June 22 for a week of intensive rehearsals. They will make a brief tour of New Zealand before leaving for the Netherlands.
