SHOW EGO WINS OAKS
NZPA Brisbane Show Ego confirmed her reputation as the best staying filly in Australia with a three-quarters of a length win over Sun Sally in the $16,000 Queensland Oaks (2400 m at Eagle Farm on Saturday. Previously she had won the V.R.C. Oaks, the Australian Derby, and the Queensland Oaks. By Showdown out of Agricola Lady and trained in Sydney by Tommy Smith, Show Ego has won at seven of her 17 starts and her stakes earnings are approaching $200,000. The Bart Cummings-trained Sun Sally made a determined challenge and Neville Voigt was forced to ride out Show' Ego, which was at odds on to win. The only New Zealand-bred in the small field, Altlsette (Oncidium—Pin), finished third.
