Departments criticised
PA Wellington Some strong criticism of the financial management and control systems of Government departments is likely in a report by the Audit Office, which will be released to Parliament later this month.
The Comptroller and Audi-tor-General (Mr A. C. Shailes) said yesterday that he hoped the report would stimulate improvements within some Government departments.
The report has been prepared during the last six months by staff of the Audit Office working with two accountants in private practice.
Mr Shailes said the report was the first comprehensive review of the financial systems of administrative Government departments. In all, about 30 departments are involved; the report does not look at trading departments. Mr Shailes said the report was with the Government Printer and he hoped it could be presented to Parliament soon after the new session began.
