Avondale GAY MONARCH (Race 1), b g, 6 yrs, by Battle Waggon—Gay Polo, trained at Matamata by 11. W. Mathews. Has made short work of his rivals at his last two starts and it will come as a surprise if any in tomorrow’s field bring his winning sequence to an end.
Gore BUTLER HANOVER (Race 9), br h, 4 yrs by Jack Chance— Spangled Hanover, trained at Oamaru by J. Dalgety. Brilliant winner of last two starts at Winton and Invercargill Obviously capable of graduating well beyond his present mark.
Morrinsville MARUA DELL (Race 4), b g. 4 yrs, by Poplar Delf—Tarina Hanover; trained al Ellerslie by D. Wingrove. Late getting clear at Franklin last week and finished on well to finish fourth. Form before has been good and should win this tonight. Otago BIDE FORD (Race 9), ch g. 4 yrs, by Bally Royal—Dulari; trained by J. R. Dowling at Wingatui. Won comfortably over 2200 metres on the first day of the meeting following a win at the Wairio meeting. Should be untroubled to master topweight of 57kg today. Woodville THUN (Race 4), b g, 9 yrs, by Fondu—Curzana; trained at Awapuni by E. Temperton. Top-class jumper which reverted to peak form with fine win over 2200 m at Awapuni on Anzac Day. Should display his superior skills over fences tomorrow.
