1000 wins for Pat Eddery
NZPA Epsom Pat Eddery, 26-year-old champion jockey of Britain, rode the 1000th winner of his career in the feature race at Epsom yesterday.
Riding a typically powerful finish, Irish-born Eddery won the £4428 City and Suburban Handicap on Saros, a 14 io I chance.
Saros, owned by an Italian doctor, Carlo Vittadini, held on to win the 10 furlong race by a head from Heronry with Better Blessed third.
“It is terrific to ride my 1000th winner, and it was here on Alvaro that I had my first in 1969,’’ Eddery said.
