Situation: A large deep depression is slow moving in the North Tasman Sea and a strong disturbed north-easterly to easterly airstream lies over New Zealand. An anticyclone to the south of the Tasman Sea is moving eastwards. Forecasts: Canterbury: Easterly winds, strong at first this morning but decreasing later; rain heavy at first but easing; cool.
Marlborough, Nelson: Moderate to fresh winds from the easterly quarter, decreasing during the day; rain, easing to scattered showers; cool. Buller, Westland: Mild and humid with rain in Buller, but the rain should ease and the winds decrease; widespread rain in Westland, with easterly winds, strong in exposed places, moderate temperatures. Outlook: Scattered rain in Canterbury and Marlborough; fair *>i- ewhere.
