Eagles outplayed
There is nothing quite like elite company to bring out the best in a golfer. Mr Ray Townshend, a former president of the Canterbury Provincial Golf Association and a present Canterbury selector, played in a recent tournament at Akaroa. With him was a member of the Akaroa club, and the other two were Mr Frank Pinfold, New Zealand president of the Eagles Society and the society’s secretary Mr Buster Gummer, both from Waikato.
At the seventh hole, with a seven-iron, Mr Townshend holed in one. But such feats of arms are not confined to noted administrators.
At Greendale this week Mrs G. Cameron, with a 4-iron, holed her tee shot at the 144 m “Descent.”
