The successful applicant will be taught the use of diagnostic ultrasound and will take part in research projects using ultrasound. The successful applicant is likely to have experience as a radiographer, registered nurse or registered nurse midwife. Additional duties will include clerical assistance with research projects. The appointment will be for 2 years and is funded by a research grant from Foundation 41. Salary will be dependent on qualifications, experience and hours worked (probably 20 per week). While the Director’s position obviously calls for a person with appropriate experience in Psychiatry, the Board nonetheless would consider applications from more recently qualified Psychiatric Specialists. The current staffing establishment in the Department is two Psychiatrists, who are currently employed with the above vacancy arising through the forthcoming return of one of the Psychiatrists to the United States. The establishment also includes a Psychiatric Registrar, two Clinical Psychologists, a Psychiatric Social Worker and the appropriate Nursing staff. The Unit in Timaru serves the City of Timaru and the surrounding country districts. A new psychiatric unit is being planned for this area and the appointee would assist in planning the service. The appointment will be of Specialist status in terms of Hospital Service Determination Medical Officers' and the salary will be within the scale $17,060 to $22,161 plus C.O.L. and Interim Special Allowance. The commencing rate will be determined by the Director-General of Health according to qualifications and experience and advancement within the scale will be automatic. THIRD MARINE ENGINEER THIRD MARINE ENGINEER AN ENGINEER WITH THIRD GRADE QUALIFICATION (or equivalent) is required for shift duties at our Seadown Acid Plant (near Timaru). DUTIES: Shift work is carried out on a rotational roster basis and involves running a recently commissioned Sulphuric Acid Plant. The. plant incorporates the latest control equipment and has a 450 P.S.I. waste heat boiler supplying a 1.6 megawatt turbo alternator. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must have Third Marine or equivalent and salary is in accordance with the New Zealand Institute Scale. LOCATION: The Seadown Works are situated 13 km north of Timaru. Timaru has a population of 28,000 people and is centrally placed between Dunedin and Christchurch, and has close access to the Lakes and ski-ing area.
