Grant for stopbanks
Stopbanks on the Ashley River are to be strengthened at a cost of $105,000. The stopbanks have looked weak in floods and a two-to-one grant of $70,000 has been approved by the Soil Conservation and Rivers Control Council for the North Canterbury Catchment Board’s project, Improvements on the stopbanks began in 1968. The grant covers the cost of surveys, investigations, and design. An over-all plan for stopbanking below the Okuku River confluence will be submitted within the next two years as a condition of the approval of the extensions.
