Trout farming

Sir, —Mr McCormick’s article stated Mr Isaac had supplied fish to the North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society. My letter published April 8 contended this was misleading in respect of the word supply. Supply, Mr Isaac has not; raise, he has, and most anglers are grateful to him for allowing the N.C.A.S. to hold fish in his ponds. Unfortunately figures supplied by the N.C.A.S. differ from Mr Isaac's. Most of the support he detailed is out of date and superseded by later decisions based on more recent and reliable information. Eight thousand licence holders in North Canterbury are a lot of voters. Not all oppose trout farming, but most appreciate the priceless heritage we have in our wild fishing, access to it, and the right of anybody to enjoy it. We must not place this "at risk.—Yours, etc., R. M. HENSHAW. April 12, 1978.
