Most wools offered at the seventh Christchurch wool sale o: me season yesterday were quoted in the official i eport as being a little stronger on recent lates at Invercargill and Dunedin. t'ne report described medium and strong crossbred, secondbr.ear crossbred and crossbred lambs’ wool as being in sellers’ favour, compared with the Invercargill sale on April 7. Compared with the Dunedin sale on March 10. Merino and fine halfbred remained firm; best style strong halfbred was 2A per cent dearer, and plainer style wools 2£ to 5 per cent stronger. Skirtings and oddments were also quoted as 2i per cent stronger. The Wool Board gave limited support to the market, bidding on 815 bales, or 3.6 per cent of the offering, and having 36 bales or 0.16 per cent sold or passed The report said most of the fleece wool reflected the adversei growing conditions. and was faulted with tenderness and dust. 3ne lambs’ wool, however, was surprisingly well grown considering the season, and the colour was good. Some of the less attractive; crossbred fleece wools, which were often very high yielding? reflected this factor in the relatively high prices obtained. Strong general competition pre-! vailed for al] descriptions, ac-! cording to the report. The main buyers were Western and Eastern Europe, with moderate sup-J port from Japan and New Zea- ! land mills.
