Youth unaware of search
A Christchurch youth who disappeared after a car accident on the Port Hills yesterday had no idea that the police were searching for him. Timothy Langley, aged 18, of Rugby Street, Merivale, was found safe and sound at his girlfriend’s home in Bumside about midday. Hie badly damaged Volkswagen car had been found overturned on the Summit Road about 1 a.m. yesterday. A small amount of blood was found in the car, and the police were called in when the youth failed to arrive at his parents’ home. The search was extended yesterday morning to include tracker dogs, a police search and rescue team, and a Royal New Zealand Air Force Sioux helicopter. It was called off when the youth’s mother telephoned the police to say he had arrived at his girlfriend’s home, unaware that anyone was looking for him. The car had apparently skidded on the Summit Road and Mr Langley had walked down the hill in a daze, said his father, Dr M. L. Langley, last evening. After wandering about for a while, he had gone to the university, where he is a student, but had, decided to go to his girlfriend’s place, as he was still suffering from shock.
