The promotion of standards

Sir, — Unlike W. D, McCullough, I failed to see in the community standards article an attack on anyone. In fact, rather than showing ignorance, I would have described it as enlightening. Certainly understanding, compassion, and love are essential in a Society, but without, any guidelines the result can only be heartbreak and remorse. After all, a loving parent who offers no discipline will not be thanked or appreciated in the final analysis. People today are being well informed about homosexuality, contraception, and abortion; but what is needed to be known even more is that help, if sought, is forthcoming in these areas. — Yours, etc F. McLACHLAN. April 8, 1978.
