Noise from aircraft
Sir, — The problem of noise of aircraft from Wigram, which has caused comments recently in this column, deserves serious consideration and action. As the house we occupy was built
long before aeroplanes were invented, the excuse that “Wigram was there first” has a hollow ring. Local residents looked forward to the phasing out of the Harvards as a partial solution but, though this probably did cause an improvement, it. was a comparatively slight one. No solution is going to be fully satisfactory until the airfield is moved. This clearly is a long-term operation, but is it too much to hope that planning for it might soon get under way? — Yours, etc., DAVID SMALE. . April 10, 1978.
