The promotion of standards

Sir, — It is the way H. G. Oram implies that anyone who does not subscribe to S.P.C.S.’s moral standards is

thereby immoral which I find objectionable. H. G. Oram may believe that God has supplied an ethical code, but there are many people who do not believe this. As a Buddhist and a homosexual I cannot agree with the theory that there is an unchangeable moral law when I can see throughout, history, Christian and non-Christian, evidence that social laws are subject to change, just as the left-hand driving rule was changed in Sweden a few years ago. It also seems very strange to me that a so-called God of love can express that love through discrimination and oppression. Christian morality is only one of the systems of ethics that exists today. — Yours, etc., HUGH K. GAW. April 9, 1978. |
