Outward Bound scholarship fund
The Outward Bound Trust will establish a scholarship trust fund to help young people attend the trust’s school at Anakiwa. The fund is a memorial to the late Lord Cobham, a former Gov-ernor-General of New Zealand. An appeal for funds was launched in a radio broadcast throughout New Zealand yesterday by Lord Ballantrae, who as Sir Bernard Fergusson succeeded Lord Cobham as Governor-Gen-eral.
Lord Cobham it generally regarded as the founder of Outward Bound in New Zea* land, and was patron of the trust from its inception in 1962 until his death last year. The trust’s school at Anakiwa is named in his honour.
The president of the Outward Bound Trust (Mr W. N. Mackie) said that Lord Cobham had believed the Outward Bound course should be within the reach of every New Zealander, Because of that, and because increasing course fees might have made access more difficult for some young people, a trust fund to help young people attend had seemed the most appropriate memorial, he said. The Outward Bound Trust will present a commemorative scroll to Lady Cobham, listing the names of donors to the trust fund. Donations, which are taxdeductible, can be sent to the Cobham Memorial Trust Fund, Outward Bound Trust of New Zealand, P.O. Box 3158 Wellington.
