Conley new regional soccer coach

The successor of the Nelson United coach, Mr Doug Moore, as the Canterbury regional soccer coach has finally been named. i The chairman of the New I Zealand Football Association i (Mr Terry Killalea) conjfirmed last evening that the! | Trans Tours United man- 1 [ager, Mr Terry Conlev. has! accepted the position. The job differs from that which Mr Moore had in that, Mr Conley is confined to a' region north of Timaru and, south of Kaikoura, while Mr! Moore had control of the entire South Island. The term of 12 months, at; which time the position can; be reviewed, began, accord-■ ing to Mr Conley, on March■ 1. A prolonged delay in the! announcement of the appointment may have cost!
-■him as much as six weeks , on the job ’! Mr Killalea said that initially the starting date for the term was April 1 but he, , personally, would have been ' happy for it to start as soon! 1 as possible, maybe on February 1. ", Mr Killalea added that Mr Conley will be looking after ' the N.Z.F.A.’s interests in his area as well as being heavily committed to coach- ! : jing courses. I Mr Conley said that he, iihad already sent a suggested ' I itinerary for his work to the ■'N.Z.F.A., the Canterbury Football Association and to :;Mr Trueman. II He has two preliminary, •'coaching courses to run, and, I his other duties include run-' ;|ning or supervising junior! i coaching courses, making J two visits to Timaru, Ash-'
h burton and at least one to 'the West Coast and to run ■the N.Z.F.A. skill courses in ■i the May and August school , [ holidays. 11 In addition he must also Ibe available for any fullbadge courses in the South Island. Mr Conley is "very ■ happy” with the terms of his contract with the national body. He also suggested that the C.F.A. meets ' him to discuss the situation ; i fully. I Another appointment announced by Mr Killalea is that of Southland area , coach. Mr Jack Vercauteren, one of the best qualified coaches in the country. I Mr Vercauteren holds full coaching badges from both the West German and English football associations.
