Squash to Hunt
NZPA-Reuter London Geoff Hunt (Australia) continued to dominate world squash when he won the British open title yesterday for the fifth time, beating the Pakistani, Qamar Zaman, in a dazzling final. Hunt, the defending champion, overwhelmed the talented but .less consistent Zaman, 7-9, 9-1, 9-1, 9-2 in an absorbing match lasting 1 hour 37min. It was the third successive British open title for the 31-year-old Hunt, the top seed, and earned him a winner’s cheque of £2OOO. The Pakistani, seeded second, played disciplined squash to win the opening game, 9-7, but the effort took its toll. Errors crept into his game and from then on the supremely fit Hunt, looking stronger as the match progressed, asserted his authority. He swept through the next three games, allowing Zaman just four more points in a masterly display of controlled aggression.
