United leads soccer

Trans Tours United became the first clear leader in Rothmans Soccer League when, it won its second successive game on Saturday at English Park.
Its 2-1 win over Courier Rangiers could have been much more clear-cut if all its cha- ges had been capitalised on. All the goals were scored in the first half, David Taylor’s for Courier coming from an excellent c .iibined effort by the Courier side. Four teams have had a win and a draw, with Nelson United, Mount Wellington, Hamilton and Blockhouse Bay all winning this weekend. Nelson beat Stop Out, 2-1 in Nelson, scoripg both its goals late in the game. The winning goal came from a penalty by John Enoka after Ken Cresswell had been brought down in the Stop Out penalty area. Nelson generally dominated play and deserved its win. Mount Wellington scraped
its way to a 3-2 win over Woolston W.M.C. in Auckland, and required a disputed late goal by Brian Turner to take both points. Woolston fought hard and, after being level, 2-2, at half-time Was unlucky to go down for the second week. Two goals by Keith Nelson, making his presence felt early in the season, sank Wellington Diamond United yesterday. Both goals were scored in the first half and W.D.U. could only reply with a late goal by Mike Simenoff. Blockhouse Bay recorded the biggest win of the season, 5-2 over the defending title-holder, North Shore. The result could signal the changing fortunes in Auckland soccer with the young Shore team obviously struggling while Blockhouse could be starting a revival after two very lean years. Its first two results this season have been particularly good. The team with seemingly all the talent, Eastern Sub=
urbs, beat Waterside in Auckland, Gary Jenkins and Earle Thomas scoring the goals. Results.— Mount Wellington 3 (Kevin Weymouth, Bill de Graaf, Brian Turner), Woolston W.M.C. 2 (Neil Francis, Robbie Larter). Half-time 2-2. Trans Tours United 2 (Kees Doornenbal, lan Park), Courier Rangers 1 (David Taylor). Halftime 2-1. Eastern Suburbs 2 (Gary Jenkins, Earle Thomas), Waterside 0. Half-time 1-0. Nelson United 2 (Ken Cresswell, John Enoka penalty), Stop Out 1 (Eric James own goal). Half-time 0-0. North Shore 2 (Brian McKeown, Adrian Elrick), Blockhouse Bay 5 (Mike Farac 2, Peter Mazany 2, lan Chicken). Halftime 1-3. W.D.U. 1 (Mike Simenoff), Hamilton 2 (Keith Nelson 2). Half-time 0-2.
