Currency report
Sterling firmed a little last: week, and the U.S. dollar remained weak, according to. the diary kept by the London 'foreign exchange department! of the Bank of New South Wales. Bank of England interven-! tion resulted in the firming, of sterling against most currencies but especially against the dollar, which closed generally weaker — in spite of support from European central banks and the Federal Reserve.
Approval soon New Zealand Aquitaine Petroleum, Ltd, and its part•ners are expecting to be given approval to drill off- • shore south of the Maui J field. Negotiations on drill’•ing arrangements for North !j Tasman 1 were progressing, J and an agreement could be [reached in about a week. • The prospect of an agreeJment was confirmed by a t spokesman for the Aquitaine - group, which has been negof tiating with the New Zealand Government for several I months.
