Pot from safe inside job?
Detectives are Investigating the theft of hundreds of dollars in cash and drugs from safes at the Auckland Central Police Station, the Press Association reports. The inquiry is linked to the top-level investigation into allegations that an Auckland policeman has been involved in drug trafficking. The investigation is being led by Detective Chief Superintendent B. Wilkinson, of Auckland, and is believed to follow complaints made late last year. Neither Mr Wilkinson nor the head of the Auck-
land Police District (Assistant Commissioner J. W. Overton) would make any comment last evening. Allegations that the policeman consorted with known drug dealers and became involved In trafficking are being investigated. It is believed the investigation began after detectives gleaned certain information from underworld contacts. Detectives working on the inquin' also want to identify the person who, over a period of some weeks, removed cash and marijuana from safes in the offices of the Auckland Central Criminal Investigation Branch.
