The U.S. and Nigeria
Sir, — So at last President Carter has declared himself. He assured Nigeria of the commitment of the United States to black majority rule in southern Africa. I wish to say that Mr Carter has not got the backing of the majority of Americans. He has not any hope of being elected for a second term in a couple of years time. Someone should remind Mr Carter that he should put his own country in order first. Since the war, the United States has made a mess in everything they have attempted outside their own country. He must be joking when he attaches such importance to Nigeria. That country has one-party rule and thousands have been killed there. I say that President Carter must be defeated in the next election and then the world might become sane again.—Yours, H. WILLIAMS. Wellington, April 3, 1978.
