Indies sack vice-captain

NZPA Port Of Spain The West Indies wicket-keeper. Deryck Murray, has been sacked as test vice-captain. The move was announced by the West Indies Cricket Board of Control as the home side was storming to an innings and 106run victory over Australia on Monday. Clive Lloyd’s new deputy is Vivian Richards, who is apparently being groomed to take over as captain when Lloyd retires. The Board of Control gave no reason for Murray’s dismissal as vice-captain, but it could be that either Murrav has fallen foul of the selectors, or that he is thinking about retirement, in which case the selectors are entitled to be looking for another ’keeper to take to India at the end of the year.
