Convention Bureau
Sir, —Mr Angus MacKenzie, director of the Canterbury Progress League, said that actions of the Christchurch Convention Bureau were “a shallow attempt to pre-empt the functions of the Canterbury Public Relations Office.” If the Public Relations Office is, in the words of Mr MacKenzie, “better equipped than any other body in the province to run conventions," why is it not established in this field already? Critics have forgotten that the executive of the bureau comprise people in the tourist industry, giving their knowledge and time free for the benefit of our city and promoting it as the convention centre of the South Pacific. The bureau was formed to promote Christchurch, not just the Town Hall. Mr MacKenzie should be behind the bureau and not partici•pating in a verba! slanging match. — Yours, etc., D. J. MANGNALL.
