Seventy years ago passengers in this Darracq service car, owned and operated by the Mount Cook Company, had a long and rough ride over the partly formed track that twisted its way along the shores of Lake Pukaki to the Hermitage. Today, however, the same journey can be completed in 30 minutes in the air-conditioned comfort of a modern landliner on a completely sealed highway. This 1974 Denning was built in Brisbane, but the Mount Cook Group now has several more modern coaches that were built in Christchurch last year.
