Wool stockpile 205,248 bales

New Zealand wool stockpile stood at 205,248 bales on January 28, according to the latest issue of the New Zealand Wool Board’s news sheet. The selling season opened with a stock of 103,801 bales. Purchases amounted to 146,314 bales and sales were 43,921 bales. Scouring and blending accounted for a loss of 946 bales. Sales at auction from July 1 to December 31 totalled 548,074 bales of greasy wool and 13,742 bales of scoured wool, of total weight of 82,307 tonnes. Grass proceeds from these was SNZI64.6M. For the same period of 1976, 515,909 bales of greasy wool and 13,882 bales of scoured wool weighing 68,459 tonnes were sold for SNZIBO.9M. About 4.9 per cent more wool was sold at auction this season than last, though the return was 9 per cent or SNZI6.3M less. The average price realised at auction for greasy wool in the period July I to December 31 last was 198.51 c a kilogram compared with 228.76 c a kilogram during the same period of the previous season.
