Post Office library?
Sir. — I firmly support your appeal for the preservation of the Post Office building in Cathedral Square. Quite apart from the fact that it sits in dignified aloofness from monstrosities casting their shadows, perhaps a new approach would enlist your support. In the present era of belt-tightening many ratepayers are finding not many notches left; a reappraisal of the new public library scheme is worthy
of consideration. The Mayor has publicly supported the retention of the Post Office building. If the building was used as a public library we would achieve that and ease the city of a further avoidable financial burden. The physical requirements, if space is at a premium, possibly need not be more than two floors in the centre of the building, the roof to be a low profile, leaving the present tower a salient feature. — Yours, etc. NEIL F.
